Registration and Accounts
What do I need to do to get the Manupatra App?
Manupatra App for Android can be downloaded from the Play store or go to http://m.Manupatra.com/Android for more details . If you are a Manupatra subscriber, you do not need to register, use your current Manupatra login and password to Sign In.
We only allow one password per e-mail address. If you have forgotten your password and need to retrieve it, click the Retrieve Password link and your password will be sent to the e-mail address you provided during the registration process.
Is the Manupatra App synced with my Manupatra online account?
Yes, if you are a subscriber of Manupatra online there is seamless integration between your Manupatra online account and the Manupatra App ( eg. your Search history, Folders, Saved Documents, Login and password are mapped) .
Searching for Cases
How do I search for a case if I have a citation?
On the homepage, click the Search Caselaw button and then click on the citation search. Now type/select the volume number, publisher abbreviation and page number of the case in the search box given at the top of the screen. The two fields Publisher and Year are mandatory for citation search,. You can get to your result even with partial information. Example: To pull up Utpal Das and Anr. v. State of West Bengal 07.05.2010, you would type in: AIR as publisher: 2010 as year : SC as court : 1894 as page number in the given boxes.
How do I search for a case using a phrase or keywords?
On the homepage, click the Search Caselaw button and click on the Manu/Title search and then type in your search query. Manu Search is a free text/ boolean search , whereas Title search only searches on the name of the appellant and respondent.
Example: To search for cases discussing the consumer laws, you could try the following searches:
Deficiency in services
" " Example : ""crime" and "Income tax"" Returns all documents containing that phrase. Note that quotes are necessary. Without quotes the search will be for all documents with crime that also contain the word income and tax (the three words not necessarily appearing next to each other).
Ordered proximity Example: "corporate tax law"@10 Finds documents with 'corporate', 'tax' and 'law' within 10 words, in the order given.
Unordered proximity Example: "technical resource acquisition"/5 Finds documents with 'technical', 'resource' and 'acquisition' within 5 words, in any order.
Single character wildcard Example: *wom?n*th?? Finds documents with 'woman', 'women', etc., or 'this', 'that', 'them', etc.
Multiple character wildcard Example: *a*n *work* Finds documents with 'an', 'addition', 'assign', etc., or 'work', 'works', 'working', etc.
Searching/Browsing for Bare Act
How do I locate a Bare Act section by phrase or keyword?
Follow these steps to locate a Bare Acts by keyword:
- On the homepage, click the Search Bare Act button.
- Enter the phrase or text to get search results.
Example: To pull up Bare Acts sections dealing with the offence of murder, you could type in: culpable homicide
Follow these steps to browse a Bare Acts:
- On the homepage, click the Browse Bare Act button.
- Select Central/State Act from the list. Depending on what you wish to browse.
- This will bring you to an expandable outline of the Bare Acts. To expand any level, click the section/title.
Adjusting Settings
You can adjust any of the following settings:
- Number of results displayed per page (10, 25, or 50).
- Type of information displayed in the results list (title, Title + Long ,Title + Short).
- Document font size (small, medium or large).
- Number of recent searches or saved documents that can be stored (5, 10, or 20).
- Document Display Style (default font feature or Zoom In/Zoom Out) and
Can I adjust the number of results displayed per page?
Yes. You can choose to display 10, 25, or 50 results per page. Just click the settings icon at the bottom of the screen and then select the appropriate option under Results Per Page.
Can I adjust the way my search results are displayed?
Yes. You can choose whether to display just the title of the decision or Title + Long or Title + Short on your results list. Just click the settings icon at the bottom of the screen and then select the appropriate option under Display in Results List.
Can I adjust the font size used to display caselaw and Bare Act?
You can choose from small, medium or large font size. Just click the settings icon at the bottom of the screen and then select the appropriate option under Document Font Size.
Search History
How do I access my recent searches?
Click the History icon at the bottom of the screen. This will bring you to the Recent Searches window where your recent searches are displayed. Click the result you want and the Manupatra App will automatically re-run the search for you.
How many recent searches does Manupatra save?
By default, the Manupatra App will store your last 20 searches.
Folders & Saved Documents
Can I save Caselaw and/or Bare Act on Manupatra?
Manupatra App has a feature to save the document in Offline Folder or Online Folders. If you are a Manupatra online subscriber all your folders will synced on the App as well. You can save documents in offline folder to read it offline or you can save the documents in Online Folder which will be synced to Manupatra online. Just click the Action icon appearing at the top right-hand side of the screen. This will bring you options to Save Document.
How do I access my saved documents?
From the homepage, click the Folder icon at the bottom of the screen. This will bring you to My Folder. Click on the My Folder Icon to fetch the saved documents. Select the folder you want and the Manupatra App will automatically pull up the documents for you.
How many documents can I save?
In Offline Folder you can save upto 5 documents, however in My Folder(Synced with Manupatra online) Manupatra App will allow you to save upto 20 documents. You can delete any saved document using Delete button in top bar and selecting the - icon against the saved document.
Printing and E-Mail
Can I print or e-mail a Judgment or section text of a Bare Act with the Manupatra App?
Yes you can now print or e-mail a document from App.

Print function will only work with Android 4.4 (Kitkat) and above.
I already have a separate Manupatra App account. Will this cease to exist?
- No the Manupatra App account will continue till its expiry date. Your current Manupatra Sign IN will be mapped to a Manupatra App account which will expire as your online subscription. The stand alone app is independent of the above and will come up for renewal as per original due date.
Which Android devices does Manupatra app work on ?
- Manupatra app works on Android (4.0 and above) devices
I am a Manupatra subscriber. Can I access my existing Sign In to access the Manupatra App?
- Yes as a Manupatra subscriber you can use your current Manupatra Sign In to access the Manupatra App.
If I am logged onto Manupatra online account will I be able to access the Manupatra App?
- The Manupatra web access will always get priority over App i.e if you are signed onto Manupatra App and you try logging in to web account, you will be logged out of the App automatically : If you are logged onto the web account and you try to access the App through same sign in, you will get Unable to log in message - ‘User already signed in’.
What happens if there is inactivity on Manupatra App for sometime?
- If you are logged onto the Manupatra App and there is inactivity of 15 mins, you will be logged off from the App automatically.
Can Manupatra subscribers accessing online account through IP also access the Manupatra App?
- IP users get Complimentary access to the Manupatra App within their campus/premices , if they access the App over wi-fi using the same network(IP) configured to use Manupatra online. To use Manupatra App within campus/premices one need to enter the signin and in the password box type any character (e.g. abcd).
Are the Manupatra online and App account synced in case of IP users?
- Yes, you will see all your folder and search.

- Yes you will be able to use the app. The same time restrictions will apply here too.
